Subject: Please support vital funding for housing and community development programs in FY2025 appropriations

Message:

There is a historic low supply of affordable homes in every state. As your constituent and a Habitat for Humanity supporter, I urge you to provide robust funding for Habitat’s priority housing programs in FY2025 and finalize the FY2025 appropriations bills soon to help expand access to homeownership and offset the rising costs associated with building and rehabilitating affordable homes. Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country utilize critical federal funding sources to meet the needs of the communities they serve. With 1 in 6 U.S. households paying more than half of their income on housing, including in rural, suburban and urban communities alike, the need for federal housing resources is significant. As such, we ask that you support the following programs to ensure they receive robust funding in FY2025:  -Fund the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP) at no less than $20 million in the FY2025 T-HUD appropriations bill. -Fund the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) at no less than $1.5 billion in the FY2025 T-HUD appropriations bill.  -Fund the USDA Section 502 Direct Loan Program at no less than $1.25 billion in the FY2025 Ag-FDA appropriations bill.  -Fund the Section 4 Capacity Building for Community Development and Affordable Housing Program at no less than $50 million in the FY2025 T-HUD appropriations bill.  Home affordability is a top concern for families nationwide. The demand for affordable, safe and healthy homes far outweighs the available supply. Federal housing programs at HUD and USDA are essential for communities and individuals facing increasing housing challenges. Please finalize the FY2025 appropriations bills soon.
