As your constituent and a supporter of Habitat for Humanity, thank you for taking urgently needed steps to provide immediate housing support through the recent passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021. While this is appreciated and will help stave off looming evictions, more support is needed to prevent foreclosures for low-income homeowners, as well as to ensure long-term housing stability for millions of families. I ask that you prioritize significant investments in housing as infrastructure and a vital part of economic recovery by: 1. Including robust funding to build affordable homes in economic recovery. 2. Prioritizing policies that ensure access to safe, healthy and affordable housing is equitable by rectifying legacies of systemic housing discrimination, closing racial gaps in homeownership and ensuring communities of opportunity for all. Bold action is needed to address the increasing cost of housing and to support the residential needs of low-income individuals and families nationwide, which is why Habitat for Humanity launched Cost of Home, a five-year advocacy campaign, in 2019. Through the campaign, Habitat for Humanity commits to mobilizing local Habitat organizations, partners, volunteers and community members across the country to find the solutions and help create the policies that will help 10 million individuals access affordable homes.
