Call on Congress to provide robust funding for Habitat’s priority housing programs

We need your help to ensure Congress provides strong funding for programs that are critical to Habitat’s efforts to expand affordable homeownership opportunities nationwide. While the administration released a Fiscal Year 2026 budget request that proposes to eliminate several of Habitat’s key programs including HOME, USDA 502, CDFI grant funding and AmeriCorps, Congress decides the final funding levels. With appropriations negotiations beginning, now more than ever, it’s important that members of Congress hear from you about these essential programs and initiatives. Subject: Please support vital funding for housing and community development programs in FY2026 appropriations

Message:

There is a historic low supply of affordable homes in every state. As your constituent and a Habitat for Humanity supporter, I urge you to support and provide robust funding for Habitat’s priority housing programs in FY2026 to help increase the supply of homeownership units. Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country utilize these critical federal funding sources to meet the needs of the communities they serve. As such, I ask that you support the following programs to ensure they receive robust funding in FY2026: -Fund the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP) at no less than $20 million in the T-HUD bill. -Fund the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) at no less than $1.5 billion in the T-HUD bill. -Fund the Section 4 Capacity Building Program at no less than $50 million in the T-HUD bill. -Fund the USDA Section 502 Direct Loan Program at no less than $1.25 billion in the Ag-FDA bill. -Fund the Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Fund at no less than $324 million in the FSGG bill. -Fund AmeriCorps at no less than $1.262 billion in the Labor-HHS bill The U.S. if facing a record shortage of starter homes, which is driving up housing costs, impeding workers’ access to job markets with economic opportunities, holding back local economies, exacerbating the wealth gap, and pushing the dream of homeownership out of reach for hard-working families nationwide. Federal housing and community development programs are essential for communities and individuals facing increasing housing challenges.
