Our nation is in desperate need of federal housing resources. Millions of families need an affordable home, while affordable housing supply is currently at record lows. Now is the time to urge your members of Congress to ensure that housing affordability challenges are addressed.

Subject: Please prioritize affordable homeownership investments

Message:

There is a historic low supply of affordable homes in every state. As your constituent and a Habitat for Humanity supporter, I urge Congress to prioritize policies that will increase the number of affordable homes, especially homeownership opportunities, for low-income families. In particular, I ask that you: 1.	Support the Community Restoration and Revitalization Fund, an effective policy solution to support nonprofit developers like Habitat to create or preserve affordable homes, including those for affordable homeownership. CRRF was included in the House-passed Build Back Better Act and adapted from the Restoring Communities Left Behind Act (H.R. 816; S.2300). 2.	Finalize the fiscal year 2022 budget and support vital housing and community development federal programs in the fiscal year 2023 budget. FY2023 requests: HUD •	Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program – $20 million •	HOME Investment Partnership Program – $1.9 billion USDA •	Section 502 Direct Loan Program – $2 billion Housing affordability remains one of the top concerns for families nationwide. The demand for affordable, safe, and healthy homes far outweighs the available supply causing many families to face extremely difficult choices between how to afford their housing and other basic needs. I believe low-income families deserve the opportunity to own a home and build wealth. If we want to close our nation’s stark racial wealth gap, homeownership must be made accessible to communities of color long disadvantaged by housing discrimination. More affordable homes must be produced nationwide not only to bring down housing costs to be within reach for families, but also to lower overall inflation. Therefore, I urge Congress to support a strong federal investment in affordable housing to help expand access to homeownership and offset the rising costs associated with building and rehabilitating affordable homes.
